Meet Dorey, the a-dorey-able little mutt with three good legs, that loves to tear up the pavement on runs. She was rescued lasy year from Richmond Animal Control after spending months waiting for her forever family. She was picked up as a stray in Richmond with a very damaged rear paw that just never healed. Despite multiple treatments and vet visits, the team at Richmond Animal Control thought that amputating her leg would be her best option for a quick and speedy recovery.
Dorey recovered as if nothing ever happened but even with her determined and sweet demeanour, no one ever came for her. She sat in animal control as a staff favorite for months. From February until June, she waited patiently with little to no prospects for a forever home.
That's where I come in. My name is Lauryn and I am a sucker for sob story rescue dogs. I saw her on my Facebook newsfeed and immediately dashed to the shelter to meet her. After meeting her, I knew I couldn't leave her behind.
This is our 2nd year for the Dorey & Her Story 5k and we want to make it even better than last year's. With your help and participation, we can help so many other animals just like Dorey.
Our goal is to raise $3,000 this year to cover event costs and also make a substantial donation to Richmond Animal Care & Control. All donations will go directly to their surgery fund.
**We are featuring a new dog this year, another tri-pod like Dorey, who was rescued shortly after Dorey's debut. We look forward to showing off this tiny but tenacious terrier's story in the coming days**
